Follow Directions in Help Wanted Ads

Follow Directions in Help Wanted Ads When sending a resume to a potential client, it is important to make sure you follow the directions. This sounds fairly simple, but you would be shocked at how many prospective candidates do not follow directions and are simply eliminated from the pool of applicants because of their lack of attention to detail. First, if the ad says, “No walk-ins, please,” then please don’t show up at the place of business. This will immediately show the employer that you do not know how to follow directions. I once had someone do this at a former workplace and he was essentially eliminated as an employee because he couldn’t follow the directions in the advertisement. After all, if he couldn’t follow those directions, how could we expect him to follow management’s directions at work? Another tidbit: send everything the advertisement asks for from the applicant. If you need to send unofficial transcripts, a resume, application, and letters of reference, be sure to send everything in one packet. This increases the likelihood that everything will stay together and the employer will appreciate the organized package. Rememberâ€"every employer is different and job applying rules vary depending upon the company. Read the advertisement carefully and ensure you have everything you need to be considered for the open position. Following the directions in the advertisement is the first step to letting the employer know that you can be the employee the company is seeking.
