What is Gen Zs Attitude Towards Their Future Careers

What is Gen Zs Attitude Towards Their Future Careers Employer branding experts, Universum have recently released the findings of a survey they conducted investigating the attitudes that young people (born between 1996 and 2000) have towards their future careers, fears about work and thoughts about higher education. Gen Z are the most digital savvy generation yet and are the first to have grown up their entire lives with easy access to information and a means of communicating online. Their confidence with technology empowers them and broadens their  knowledge on the world and the options available to them. Though most of them are still in school, they will make up a large portion of our workforce in the not so distant future. So how can employers go about attracting this group  who feel like anything is possible and have such a keen interest in entrepreneurship and what do these individuals expect of their careers? Optimistic spirit: 65% are hopeful about the future; however they are less optimistic about their standard of living that Gen Y. Just over half of Gen Z believe they will surpass that of their parents, compared to 71% of Gen Y. How will employers support the optimism and creativity that runs through this generation?   Values at work: 36%  fear they won’t find a job that matches their personality.   35% are worried that they will get stuck with no development opportunities. A further 28% are concerned that they wont realise  their own career goals. Its essential that employers recognise the need for this generation to express their personality to work and offer them the chance to grow professionally in their company. University alternatives: Only 15 %  accept the idea of foregoing university outright, but 47 percent say they would “maybe” consider the notion of joining the workforce instead of pursuing college/university. Employers may rethink the employer/employee relationship, reaching out earlier and offering more on-the-job education than is typical today. Top career goals: The top career goals of the generation are a good work-life balance and job security and stability. Work-life balance is most important to those in Hong Kong and Malaysia. Entrepreneurial mindset: An impressive 55% say they are interested in starting their own company â€" a figure that’s even higher in emerging markets. Employers must work hard to convince them of their value these individuals can bring to a company. They may be won over by an innovative culture and freedom in their work. Social selectivity: Social media seems an easy way to reach Gen Z, but employers must proceed with care. 83% are open to being contacted by a future employer via social media. However 59% say that they do not want to see ads from employers on there. [Top Image Credit: Shutterstock]

Three Secrets To Promoting Your Next Conference Talk - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Three Secrets To Promoting Your Next Conference Talk - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Speaking at a conference can sometimes be a hit or miss affair. You agonize over your slides and practice your talk, only to find that out of the 300 attendees, 10 of them are in your session. Hardly seems worth the effort. But other times, you find that you get more than half the people at the conference at your event, and youre on top of the world. Increase your audience How do you get more people to show up at your breakout session? How do you beat the other speakers, who you say youre not competing with, but secretly want to crush by stealing all of their attendees? Here are three techniques I have used in the past to increase the attendance at my own conference breakout sessions. 1. Pick a topic and level that slightly exceeds the abilities of the attendees. You wouldnt go to a social media conference and offer Social Media 101. And you wouldnt go to a small business conference and offer advanced search engine optimization techniques. Instead, figure out where your audience is, and then go just a little bit higher. Speaking at a blogging conference? Talk about the newest Google Panda/Penguin changes. Going to a marketing conference? Talk about the new developments in mobile marketing. Your audience doesnt want material thats beneath them, and they dont want to be reminded of things they already know. They want to be challenged, but not have everything go so far over their head they dont understand a word of it. Pick an interesting, trending topic and give them new knowledge. 2. Write the session title and description like a sales letter. What attracted you to read this post? If youre like most readers, it was the secrets. A lot of my breakout sessions offer a finite number of secrets, because I know most people dig that kind of stuff, and its guaranteed to give me a boost. Google some examples of interesting sales letters, and incorporate some of their techniques, like using bullet points to tell people the highlights of what theyll learn: Learn how to pick a topic that inspires conference attendees. Discover which social media tools can help you reach a broader audience. Learn how bullet points can help increase session attendance. Get the picture? Also get one or two of Dan Kennedys books on copywriting, especially sales letters, and incorporate a couple of those ideas into the description. After all, your description is basically a sales letter that gets people to show up in the first place. 3. Use Twitter to meet conference attendees. I once managed to bring half of a regional conference to my breakout session, because for a month beforehand, I started promoting it to people who would be attending. But best of all, I did it without advertising or promoting the talk. Heres how I did it. Use Twellowhood.com to identify people who lived in the cities around the conference area, and follow them. Use a search column on TweetDeck to identify the hashtag for the conference. Since this was a popular one, people were talking about it a month before. I followed these people too. I scouted the conference website and started following the people who were also speaking. I introduced myself to the people I started following. Occasionally I would mention that I had a session at the conference, and asked them to stop by after it was over. I participated in conversations with the conference attendees, getting to know them, and letting them get to know me. Again, I would ask them to say hi after my session. I eventually turned the hashtag into a Twitter list for that community, and still follow it to this day, because I have returned to that conference, and the city, a few more times. Those are just three basic ways to increase your conference session attendance. Which of those have you used in the past? Which ones work best for you? Leave a comment and let me hear from you. Defeat Your Anxiety Monsters with 5 (Seriously!) Easy Tips  - Classy Career Girl

Defeat Your Anxiety Monsters with 5  (Seriously!)  Easy Tips   Anxiety can sometimes feel like a slithering, slimy, black monster growling in the back of our minds non-stop, every day, bickering away at all our fears, insanities, and insecurities. For some, anxiety shows up only during stressful times. For others, anxiety turns into a disorder that traps them in permanent fear and depression. For many who continue to live with anxiety for decades begin to believe alleviation can’t exist. Biologically, anxiety is our body’s way of signaling, “Hey! Watch out, there’s danger ahead!” So, from an evolutionary standpoint, this explains anxiety’s positive role when our ancestor Homo sapiens were escaping wild bobcats in the forest. Yet, where does anxiety come from today? Although we are no longer battling beasts on bare grounds, we are managing threats that can doom our wellbeing, like stressful careers, unloving relationships, toxic people, and social media overloads. Thus, certain factors can trigger anxiety monsters unexpectedly, even when no real signs of danger exist. But, for all classy career girls out there, start believing that you can empower yourself to better health. As a writer who has dealt with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I know the troubles it can cause. Now, I’ve mastered 5 tips to live a happier, calmer, and more beautiful life and you can too! Defeat Your Anxiety Monsters with 5  (Seriously!)  Easy Tips   1. Spot Your Unique Anxiety Triggers Having trouble concentrating or sleeping? Can’t seem to attend social events without an underlying fear? Struggling with stress or panic attacks? Public speaking and work events causing immense nervousness? The list of triggers will be person dependent, so only you can determine what yours are. Yet, recognizing these triggers can help you access the right type of support. Start by logging moments on your phone as anxiety spurs up or journaling daily to promote inner-reflection. Taking this step will automatically bring you some relief because now you’ve pinpointed your triggers. 2. Schedule in Some Self-Soothing Life can be overwhelming sometimes, especially if you’re juggling a career, family, and self-care. Ultimately though, self-care is significant in transitioning you into a more self-loving person. If you don’t soothe yourself, how will you strongly support your family, tackle work deadlines, and live a beautiful life? Often, we consume ourselves with to-dos and forget that part of living authentically includes scheduling in some good ol’ fun. For example, gardening, yoga, painting, taking 15-minute walks in nature, crafting, or scheduling beach trips. Take a few minutes now to list out what you sincerely enjoy. By scheduling in even 30 minutes per day to nurture your wants and feel-good activities, you will start to see a dramatic decrease in your stress levels. 3.  Prioritize Yourself Attending a birthday party of a friend’s friend, because you don’t want to make a bad impression? Wearing shoes that hurt your feet tremendously only because they’re the new trend? Often, we put our needs on hold for kooky and unjust reasons, like catering to fashion trends that discomfort us, attending events we despise or rescuing unsupportive, flaky friends. Then, we come home exhausted, eating bowls of ice-cream in our pajamas, daydreaming a Hawaii rendezvous. Start asking yourself today what-to-dos or events on your calendar are there due to obligation or society norms? Are there even two agendas you can recognize that don’t align with your morals or interests? Can you cancel them? Essentially, it’s about creating healthy boundaries and prioritizing yourself first. Starting today, focus on what makes you happy. [RELATED: Try These 5 Tips To Reduce Depression And Anxiety] 4.  Choose Kind People Toxic people can be gossipy coworkers, uncaring friends or disrespectful family members. Thus, try limiting your interactions with anyone who deflates your inner badass, amazing self. Give yourself permission to reject friendships that aren’t for your greater good or civilly request desk changes to your manager if you’ve been placed next to a nasty coworker. The more you opt-in for mutually respectful and caring relationships, the calmer you’ll feel inside. 5.  Ask for Support As humans, we cannot always be our own healers. Our friends and family may also be limited in the emotional or psychological support they can provide. Thus, it is important to seek professional help if you’re finding yourself in a bit of rut. You may even encounter solutions you never thought existed. Remember, never be ashamed of your bliss-seeking journey despite stigmas associated with mental health. If you’ve cared enough to take healthy steps to improve your life, you’re a much stronger person than you know.
